Harper comes in third in Sporting News Rookie of the Year voting

Major League Baseball's official Rookie of the Year award, voted on by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, won't be announced until Nov. 12. The Sporting News has announced the results of its own Rookie of the Year award, however. Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley will take home that honor, with Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper finishing third in the voting. Reds infielder Todd Frazier was second. The Sporting News polled 203 major league players for the award, and had players only cast a vote for the top rookie in their own league. Miley earned 54 votes, Frazier got 35 votes and Harper got 20 votes. Miley went 16-11 with a 3.33 ERA this season. The left-hander logged 194 2/3 innings, striking out 144 and posting a 1.18 WHIP. Frazier hit .273 with 19 homers, 67 RBIs and a .829 OPS in 128 games, while Harper batted .270 with 22 home runs, 59 RBIs, an .817 OPS and 18 stolen bases in 139 games. Angels outfielder Mike Trout won the Sporting News' American League Rookie of the Year.
