Harper, Espinosa homer as Nats continue to roll (Nats win 4-2)

And the beat goes on. The Nationals just keep rolling over American League East teams, and they're up over the Blue Jays 4-2 tonight thanks to homers from Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa. Harper's blast was a solo shot in the third that was absolutely demolished, bouncing off the Blackberry sign in the second deck in right-center. It was Harper's seventh homer on the season, and his average now is above .300. Espinosa's blast came an inning later. It was a two-run shot to center that brought in Adam LaRoche, who had doubled to lead off the inning. The homer came from the left-hand side of the plate for Espinosa, who, as we've mentioned, has really struggled hitting left-handed this season. Tonight, Espinosa has the homer and a double while hitting left-handed. Chien-Ming Wang went five innings and is in line for the win, but he didn't pitch especially well. The veteran righty allowed two runs on four hits, but he walked five in his five innings of work and needed 95 pitches to get through his five frames. Wang still hasn't gone further than five innings since rejoining the Nats' rotation. Update: All of the Nationals' runs scored on homers as they beat the Blue Jays 4-2, extending their winning streak to five straight. Jhonatan Solano smacked his first career major league homer in the seventh (and he got the silent treatment in the dugout immediately afterwards), and Ross Detwiler, Craig Stammen, Sean Burnett and Tyler Clippard combined to throw four shutout innings to close it out. Clippard worked yet another perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his ninth straight save. The Nats are now 14 games over .500 with tonight's victory.
