It's all Marlins early on (Nats lose 8-0)

A day after the Nationals packed an offensive punch, put together some late-inning dramatics and smacked four more home runs, their bats have been dead silent through four innings against Ricky Nolasco. Same can't be said for the Marlins' bats against Edwin Jackson. The Nats trail 5-0 after four innings, as they've yet to record a hit against Nolasco and also watched as Miami has put up seven hits and two multi-run innings. Jackson allowed three runs in the second inning on four straight Marlins hits, the last of which Bryce Harper seemed to have a beat on before he lost it in the sun. That fly ball, which came off the bat of Nolasco, dropped for a double, allowing two runs to score. The Marlins added two more in the fourth on back-to-back RBI hits by Bryan Peterson and Justin Ruggiano. Meanwhile, Nolasco has really had the Nationals' number of late. He's thrown 17 straight scoreless innings against Washington dating back two starts. That includes a complete-game, five-hit shutout which Nolasco spun back on August 28. He's allowed just a single baserunner today - Harper walked in the first - but has faced the minimum through four frames. Update: Jackson's done after just 4 2/3 innings, having allowed six runs on nine hits. The righty walked two and struck out two. He leaves with the Nats trailing 6-0, although they were able to record their first hit in the bottom of the fifth on Michael Morse's single to left. Update II: They just showed a "highlights" package on the JumboTron here at Nats Park, and they really had to dig deep to find enough plays to fill a 45-second video segment. The Nationals have still managed just one hit off Nolasco and now trail 8-0 going to the bottom of the eighth inning. Nolasco has faced just one batter over the minimum through seven, needing 85 pitches to get there. Giancarlo Stanton has added yet another home run for the Marlins (does this guy absolutely terrorize the Nats, or what?) to pad the lead for Nolasco even more. Update III: That's your ballgame. The Nats fell to the Marlins 8-0 in the finale of this three-game set. Nolasco gets another shutout of the Nats, his second in as many starts. Good thing the Nats don't have to see him again this season. The Nats finish their 11-game homestand 8-3 and with Atlanta's win over the Mets today, Washington's NL East lead is cut to 5 1/2 games.
