If you've ever dreamed of sipping wine while discussing the intricacies of the curveball with Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez, mark Thursday, May 3 on your calendar and get out your checkbooks.
That's the night Gonzalez will host his third annual Uncork for a Cause, when the pitcher, his teammates and special guests will gather from 6-9 p.m. at The Rooftop at F1RST Residences, a new rooftop entertainment space across from Nationals Park. The event will raise funds and awareness for The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation and Hialeah Baseball, Gonzalez's alma mater.
Gonzalez's 2015 Sonoma Reserve Red Wine will be available only during the event, which will also feature an auction of game-used Nationals gear and memorabilia, local and national sports items, wine lots from some of California's elite producers and travel opportunities to wine country.
Guests will enjoy an enticing culinary menu specially designed by Declaration's award-winning culinary team. Admission includes food, beer and wine plus a complimentary, limited-edition bottle of Gonzalez's red wine, of which only one barrel was bottled for Gonzalez's charity program. All tickets are VIP this year and include an upscale tasting featuring the wines of Christopher Creek Winery and their award-winning Russian River Valley portfolio, and a craft cocktail bar provided by Jos. A. Magnus Distillery.
The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation is committed to improving the lives of children and teens in the Washington, D.C., region by supporting initiatives focused on academics, the arts, nutrition and sports. Through the generosity of Nationals fans and corporate partners, the Dream Foundation is using the power of baseball to provide a world of opportunity for area youth.
Hialeah Baseball provides financial support and planning directly to the Hialeah High School baseball team, where Gonzalez began his career and won two state championships. Funding supports the players and team in many ways, including travel, field maintenance, equipment and provides opportunities for Thoroughbreds baseball to excel on and off the field. Proceeds from Gonzalez's 2016 charity event provided new home and road uniforms, hats and cleats for the team.
Tickets are $250 per person and available here.
