For the second straight night, the Nationals had a runner on second with no outs in the first and failed to score. Braves right-hander Williams Perez escaped Anthony Rendon's leadoff double by retiring the next three Nats, with Jayson Werth whiffing to end the frame.
Meanwhile, Nick Markakis smoked a two-out double in the bottom of the inning off Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann. A.J. Pierzynski followed with an bloop RBI single to left to get the Braves on the scoreboard first.
Clint Robinson singled to start the second and then Ian Desmond walked, once again giving the Nats a runner in scoring position with no outs. But Wilson Ramos grounded into a double play. And after an intentionalk walk to Michael A. Taylor, Zimmermann grounded out as the Nats came up empty.
The Braves delivered again with two outs in the second on an RBI hit from Michael Bourn.
The Nationals have just one run through the first 14 innings of this series.
Update: Zimmermann won't be a winner in possibly his final start with the Nationals. He allowed two runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout over six innings. Zimmermann threw 82 pitches.
The Nationals have gone 10 straight innings without scoring.
Update II: The Nationals went quietly in the eighth and ninth. They finished the night 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
The Braves beat the Nationals 2-0.
