Marlins-Nationals game postponed; split doubleheader Sunday (updated)

After a rain delay of 3 hours, 45 minutes, it's been announced that tonight's Marlins-Nationals game has been postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a split doubleheader tomorrow. The first game is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m., with the nightcap following at 7:05 p.m. Because it's a split doubleheader, separate admission will be required for each game. The stadium will be cleared in between ballgames. It will be Dan Haren and Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler (who was scheduled to start tonight) in the first game, and Stephen Strasburg and left-hander Brian Flynn in the nightcap. Both games tomorrow will be aired on MASN HD. Because it's the last time that the Nats and Marlins will face each other this season, Major League Baseball played a part in the decision to wait out a rain delay of nearly four hours before calling the game. Typically, up until first pitch, the home team has control of the decision whether to sit through a rain delay, play the game on time or announce a postponement. But because of the circumstances this late in the season, MLB and umpires were a part of the decision-making process tonight. The NatsLive Free Postgame Concert featuring Montgomery Gentry that was scheduled for tonight will not be made up tomorrow. Fans with game tickets to Saturday's postponed contest may use their original tickets for the 7:05 p.m. rescheduled game tomorrow night. Those unable to attend tomorrow night's game can exchange their tickets for any prime, regularor value game during the 2014 regular season, excluding opening day and arquee games.
