Michael A. Taylor smacks walk-off homer in 5-2 win

Tanner Roark worked through an eventful first inning. Cameron Maybin slapped a one-out single to left and then Roark picked him off. Freddie Freeman followed with a double, drilled off the wall in right. Then Roark hit A.J. Pierzynski before getting Adonis Garcia to ground out to end the frame.

After allowing Bryce Harper to score four times on four walks last night, the Braves decided to challenge the Nats slugger tonight. Facing a full count with two outs, Harper pulverized a fastball from right-hander Julio Teheran, depositing it in the second deck in right-center field for his 32nd home run.

Update: A one-out walk to Nick Markakis came back to haunt Roark in the third. Freeman's single to left advanced Markakis to third, which he scored from when Pierzynski legged out an infield hit.

Update II: Roark left with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth. Left-hander Matt Thornton came out of the bullpen to get Pierzynski to pop out to Ian Desmond. Adonis Garcia followed with a groundout as Thornton escaped the jam.

Roark allowed one earned run on five hits, with three walks and one hit batter. He threw 69 pitches.

After last night's offensive assault, the Nats have just two hits tonight.

Update III: Felipe Rivero pitched a perfect sixth and seventh inning in relief for the Nats. He finished off his outing by blowing a 99 mph fastball by Maybin.

Update IV: Freeman ripped a leadoff double against Drew Storen in the eighth. After Pierzynski grounded out, pinch-hitter Nick Swisher found a hole on a single to right. Freeman raced to the plate, beating Jayson Werth's throw, to give the Braves the lead.

Update V: Yunel Escobar doubled down the right field line to start the ninth. Manager Matt Williams inserted rookie Trea Turner in to pinch-run for Escobar. Ian Desmond dropped a sacrifice bunt with two strikes to advance Turner to third.

Right-hander Arodys Vizcaino then whiffed pinch-hitter Wilson Ramos on a 101-mph heater. That sent little-used Matt den Dekker to the plate for his first at-bat of night. On a 1-0 pitch, den Dekker lined a single up the middle, plating Turner to tie the game.

Jonathan Papelbon shut down the Braves in order in the tenth.

Update VI: Harper and Zimmerman started the 10th with singles bringing Michael A. Taylor off the bench to pinch-hit. The rookie smacked a 1-0 slider deep to left-center for a three-run walk-off homer.

The Nationals beat the Braves 5-2.
