Nationals add five players to 40-man roster

The Washington Nationals today selected the contracts of first baseman Tyler Moore, catchers Derek Norris and Jhonatan Solano, and outfielder Eury Perez. Additionally, the Nationals claimed right-handed pitcher Cole Kimball off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements. Moore hit .271 with 35 doubles, 31 home runs and 90 RBIs in 137 games with Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League in 2011. The 24-year-old led the circuit in home runs, RBI and total bases (276) en route to mid-season and post-season All-Star honors. Among minor leaguers during the last two seasons, Moore is tied for tops in RBI (202) and ranks fifth in home runs (62). Moore - the Nationals' 2010 minor league Player of the Year - is batting .266 with 118 doubles, 77 homers and 317 RBIs in 448 games during four seasons as a professional. Norris posted 20 home runs, 46 RBIs and a .367 on-base percentage with Harrisburg last season en route to being named the No. 9 prospect in the Nationals organization by Baseball America . Following the 2011 campaign, Norris batted .276 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 21 contests with Scottsdale of the Arizona Fall League and was selected to play in the prospect-laden AFL Rising Stars Game. Norris, 24, ranks second among all minor leaguers with 256 walks over the last three seasons. He has thrown out 151 of 375 (40 percent) would-be basestealers in five seasons as a professional. Solano batted .275 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 33 RBIs in 78 games last season with Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. An exceptional defender behind the plate, the 26-year-old is a career .251 hitter with 21 home runs and 181 RBIs over six minor-league seasons. Perez, 21, batted .283 with nine doubles, two triples, one home run and 41 RBIs last season with Single-A Potomac. His 45 stolen bases ranked second in the Carolina League, behind teammate Jeff Kobernus (53 SB). Perez, who has posted 109 stolen bases over the last two seasons, was recently rated the fastest baserunner in the Nationals organization by Baseball America . He has a .303 batting average with 43 doubles, 15 triples, 11 home runs, 165 RBIs and 168 stolen bases during his five-year professional career. Kimball, 26, went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 12 relief appearances last season with the Nationals. On Wednesday, Toronto claimed him off waivers from Washington.
