Nationals agree to terms with all 22 pre-arbitration players

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Nationals announced tonight they agreed to terms with all 22 of their pre-arbitration players, ensuring everyone on the roster is under contract with a set salary for the season.

The players who agreed to terms: right-handers Blake Treinen, Joe Ross, Trevor Gott, A.J. Cole, Koda Glover, Rafael MartÃn, Austin Adams, Jimmy Cordero and Austin Voth; left-handers Sammy Solis, Enny Romero and Matt Grace; infielders Clint Robinson, Matt Skole, Trea Turner, Wilmer Difo and Jose Marmolejos; outfielders Michael A. Taylor, Brian Goodwin and Rafael Bautista; and catchers Pedro Severino and Raudy Read.

Once a player has three years of big league service time, he becomes eligible for arbitration, meaning the player and the club can negotiate equally their salaries for the upcoming season or else leave it to an arbitration panel to decide.

Players who have fewer than three years of service time have no say in their annual salary. The team sets those figures, with rookies earning the league minimum ($535,000) and others earning slightly more based on how much time they've spent in the majors.

If a player doesn't agree to terms, the club can renew the player at whatever salary it chooses. In this case, the Nationals and all 22 players agreed with no renewals necessary.

The Nationals are expected to open the season with a payroll of roughly $166 million, according to calculations by Baseball Prospectus.
