Nationals recall Joan Adon

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester and placed infielder Luis García on the 10-day Injured List with a strained oblique muscle on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Adon, 23, went 7-6 with a 4.97 ERA in 21 starts between High-A Wilmington, Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester in 2021. He struck out 122 batters against 40 walks in 105.0 innings pitched. He ranked among Nationals Minor Leaguers in wins (T2nd, 7), strikeouts (3rd, 122) and innings pitched (4th, 105.0).

In his last seven starts, Adon went 4-2 and posted a 3.08 ERA (13 ER/38.0 IP) with 50 strikeouts, 13 walks and .199 opponents' batting average (28-for-141). He allowed two earned runs or less in six of the seven starts and surrendered just one home run over this stretch. Adon made his Triple-A debut on Sept. 24, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out seven batters in 4.0-scoreless innings of work.

Adon was named High-A East Pitcher of the Week (Aug. 16) after tossing a complete game, Aug. 17 at Aberdeen (BAL). He tossed a four-hit shutout and recorded six strikeouts without a walk.

A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Adon was signed by Washington as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2016. He is 23-11 with three saves and a 4.29 ERA, 283 strikeouts and 115 walks in 76 career Minor League outings across four professional seasons.

Garcia, 21, hit .242 with 18 doubles, two triples, six homers, 22 RBI, 11 walks and 29 runs scored in 70 games in his second Major League season.
