Nationals reinstate right-hander Stephen Strasburg

The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the paternity list on Thursday and optioned left-handed pitcher Matt Grace to Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Strasburg, 28, is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in four starts this season. Strasburg has tossed at least 7.0 innings in each of his first four starts of the season for the first time in his career. In his last start, prior to being placed on the paternity list, Strasburg struck out 10 batters while allowing two earned runs on six hits in 7.0 innings as the Nationals topped the Braves, 3-2, on April 20.

Earlier this week, Strasburg and his wife, Rachel, welcomed their second child.

Grace, 28, appeared in one game during his first Major League stint of 2017, tossing 1.1 inning of one-hit, scoreless relief on April 26 at Colorado. The left-hander has a 3.38 ERA in 32 career Major League games, including five appearances last season over which he allowed just one hit and did not give up a run.
