Nationals select contract of infielder Grant Green

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of infielder Grant Green from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday and placed infielder Stephen Drew on the 10-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Green, 29, joins the Nationals after four games with Triple-A Syracuse this season where he went 2-for-13 with one double. The Nationals are the fourth Major League team Green has played for, coming to Washington after stops with the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants.

A former first-round selection in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft (No. 13 overall, by Oakland), Green has posted a career .251 batting average with 15 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 38 RBI and 36 runs scored in 127 Major League games.

A versatile player - he has appeared at all four infield positions, as well as in the outfield in the Major Leagues - Green was a non-roster invitee to the Nationals' 2017 Spring Training.

Drew, 34, is in his second season with Washington. A valuable member of the Nationals' bench, Drew is 4-for-18 this season with one double and four RBI. He posted a three-hit night and collected all four of his 2017 RBI on Monday.
