Nationals select the contract of Seth Romero

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Seth Romero and placed left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to Aug. 11) with right knee fatigue on Thursday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Romero, 24, was Washington's first round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. He is the No. 13 prospect in the Nationals system and has the "Best Slider" among Nationals Minor Leaguers, per Baseball America. He joins the active roster for the first time in his Major League career.

Romero did not pitch in 2019, as he was recovering from Aug. 2018 Tommy John surgery. He appeared in 14 games (14 starts) during his Minor League career (2017-18) before the surgery, recording a 4.37 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 47.1 innings (13.1 SO/9.0 IP).

Doolittle, 33, appeared in five games (3.0 IP) and allowed five earned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
