Nationals reinstate Anthony Rendon from DL

PITTSBURGH - The Nationals took a major leap forward on the road to health by reinstating Anthony Rendon from the 15-day disabled list this afternoon.

Rendon's season has been plagued by three different injuries, limiting him to just 18 games for the Nationals.

The 25-year-old returned to hit .290/.375/.362 with five doubles and five RBIs before landing back on the DL with a left quad strain on June 25.

Rendon appeared in six minor league rehab games with Single-A Potomac over the past week, hitting .471 (8-for-17) with two doubles, one RBI, three walks and two runs scored.

The Nationals optioned right-hander Abel De Los Santos to Double-A Harrisburg to make room for Rendon on the 25-man roster. De Los Santos, 22, made his major league debut on July 21 and appeared in two games for the Nationals allowing one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
