Over his first three major league starts, right-hander Blake Treinen has pitched to a miniscule ERA of 1.78. However, he has yet to earn his first win in the majors, and is 0-2 on the season.
If he wants to earn his first win today, he'll need the Nationals to mount a comeback. After pitching a scoreless first inning, Treinen allowed two runs in the second.
The first run came on Tyler Colvin's monster hit that bounced at the base of the right field wall. Jayson Werth had a hard time tracking the ball down, and by the time he got it back in, Colvin was at third with an RBI triple.
The Giants' second run came one batter later, with Brandon Crawford's RBI groundout increasing the lead to 2-0.
Through two, the Nats have been held to just one hit, a single off the bat of Ian Desmond.
Update: The Nats got on the board in the fourth and now trail by just one run. Adam LaRoche started things off with a single to center, and he advanced to second on a Buster Posey passed ball.
LaRoche came around to score on Ryan Zimmerman's single, and it's 2-1 as we go to the bottom of the fourth.
Update II: Treinen got himself into a bit of trouble in the fourth. He loaded the bases on a Michael Morse single, a walk by Colvin and a walk by Crawford.
The 25-year-old's first strikeout of the day couldn't have come at a better time. He got Ehire Adrianza swinging for the first out of the inning, bringing pitcher Tim Hudson to the plate. Treinen got the veteran pitcher to ground into a 4-6-3 double play for a scoreless frame, which keeps the score at 2-1, Giants.
Update III: Treinen's day is done after five innings. He allowed five hits and two runs (both earned,) walking three and striking out two.
He leaves in line for the loss. Craig Stammen is in for the sixth.
Update IV: Stammen struggled in the sixth and couldn't get out of the inning until the Giants increased their lead to 4-1. The Giants added their first run in the sixon Stammen's balk. Craword and Gregor Blanco added RBI singles, and the Nats have some catch-up to play.
Update V: We're through eight but not before the Giants added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth. With Aaron Barrett pitching in the seventh, Pablo Sandoval hit a sac fly to plate Hunter Pence.
An inning later, Hector Sanchez also connected off Barrett, singling to center and scoring two runs.
On the day, Morse is 3-for-4 with two runs. Crawford is 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk.
Nats trail 7-1.
Update VI: The Nats were unable to complete the four-game sweep of the Giants and fell in San Francisco, 7-1. Treinen is still seeking his first major league win, and his ERA now stands at 2.08.
The Nats now travel to St. Louis for a three-game series against the Cardinals.
