Nats sign right-hander Daniel Stange to minor league deal

Mike Rizzo has reunited with another former Diamondbacks connection, as the Nationals have signed right-handed reliever Daniel Stange to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league spring training. In 2006, his final year as the Diamondbacks' scouting director, Rizzo selected Stange with Arizona's seventh-round pick in the First-Year Player Draft. Now Rizzo has given Stange a deal that will bring him to Viera, Fla., where he'll compete for a job in a few months. Stange, a UC Riverside product, has appeared in just seven big league games in his career, allowing six runs over four innings for the Diamondbacks in 2010 and surrendering three runs in 1 2/3 innings for the Angels in 2013. The 27-year-old posted a 4.52 ERA over 65 2/3 innings between Triple-A Tucson (a Padres' affiliate) and Triple-A Salt Lake (an Angels affiliate) this season, with 73 strikeouts, 37 walks and a 1.553 WHIP. This will be Stange's fourth organization since being drafted in 2006.
