Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer yielded a leadoff single to Dee Gordon. Two batters later, Christian Yelich launched a two-run homer to deep right-center field. It's the second straight night a Nats starter has allowed a two-run homer in the first inning.
Scherzer has now surrendered 25 home runs on the season, seven more than last year and his highest total since 29 in 2011.
Update: Clint Robinson answered with a solo shot to the second deck in right to start the second. It was Robinson's 8th home run of the season.
Update II: Bryce Harper reached on an infield single in the sixth and then Marlins starter Jose Fernandez hit Jayson Werth. The first-pitch 96 mph heater caught Werth on the left elbow. Werth glared at Fernandez and the two exchanged words as Werth slowly made his way to first base.
Fernandez then uncorked two wild pitches and Harper came racing home on the second, tying the game.
Scherzer has blanked the Marlins since the first.
Update III: The only runs Scherzer allowed came on Yelich's two-run homer in the first. Scherzer yielded five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches.
Left-hander Felipe Rivero will start the eighth.
Update IV: Singles by Ichiro and Justin Bour gave the Marlins first and third with one out against Rivero and caused Nationals manager Matt Williams to go to right-hander Blake Treinen.
Marcell Ozuna hit a grounder to Ian Desmond, who went to Anthony Rendon for the force at second. But Rendon's throw to first for the double play sailed over Robinson and Ichiro scored the go-ahead run.
Update V: Yunel Escobar led off the eighth with a base hit and then Trea Turner entered to pinch-run for him. Harper followed with a walk. A wild pitch advanced both runners, leaving right-hander Jose Urena to intentionally walk Robinson with one out.
Desmond lifted a sacrifice fly just deep enough to center, allowing Turner to race home with the tying run.
Michael A. Taylor then smacked a two-out RBI single to center, scoring Harper for the go-ahead run.
Right-hander Jonathan Papelbon is on for the ninth.
Update VI: Miguel Rojas doubled down the right field line to start the ninth and then took third on Harper's errant throw. After Papelbon whiffed Casey McGehee, Dee Gordon hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing Rojas home for the game-tying run.
The run was unearned, but it was Papelbon's second straight blown save.
Turner came up with a two-out single in the bottom of the frame, but Harper lined out to right to end the inning.
Update VII: Jose Lobaton hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Werth to win the game in the 10th.
The Nationals beat the Marlins 5-4 in 10 innings.
