Rendon named NL Player of the Week

Anthony Rendon has been named National League Player of the Week, honored for his impressive performance during the Nationals' 6-1 road trip.

Rendon hit .483 (14-for-29) with three doubles, two homers, seven RBIs, five walks, one stolen base and six runs. He capped off the week with a dominant showing in Sunday's 11-inning win over the Cubs, going 4-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and a walk.

All of this raised his season totals to impressive heights: He's now batting .329 with 35 doubles, 29 homers and 104 RBIs. And that prompted one Chicago reporter to ask manager Davey Martinez if he wanted to make a case for his third baseman to be the NL's MVP.

"I'll make a case for him right now, yeah," Martinez replied. "MVP. Gold Glove. My man, Anthony!"
