Rendon wins second career Silver Slugger Award

The Nationals' first (and potentially only) individual award from the 2019 regular season went to Anthony Rendon, who tonight was named the Silver Slugger Award winner as the National League's best offensive third baseman.

Rendon led the league's third basemen in batting average (.319), runs (117), doubles (44), RBIs (126), on-base percentage (.412), slugging percentage (.598) and OPS (1.010). His 34 homers trailed only Eugenio Suárez, Nolan Arenado and Josh Donaldson at his position.

This is Rendon's second career Silver Slugger Award, coming five years after his initial win in 2014. Arenado had taken home the honors each of the last four seasons.

Now a free agent, Rendon hits the open market on the heels of his best all-around season, one in which he also excelled on the postseason stage and was named a finalist (along with Christian Yelich and Cody Bellinger) for NL MVP, with that winner set to be announced next Thursday.

No other Nationals won Silver Slugger Awards this season, though Juan Soto was a candidate in left field. Voting was conducted in late September by NL managers and coaches, who were not allowed to select any players from their own teams.

Despite team success that culminated with their first World Series title last week, the Nationals didn't earn many accolades on an individual level this season. Rendon, Soto and Victor Robles were finalists for Gold Glove Awards, but none won the honor.

Rendon is a finalist for MVP, but is expected to lose to either Yelich or Bellinger. Max Scherzer is a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award, but that honor is expected to go to Jacob deGrom.
