Rookie Leon helped off after injuring right leg (updated twice)

A cool moment - Bryce Harper's first major league home run - is quickly trumped by a sad one. Nationals catcher Sandy Leon, making his major league debut tonight, was run into by Padres third baseman Chase Headley as Headley was trying to score from second on a fourth-inning single to right-center. Leon's right leg got bent back, and he was clearly in pain after Headley touched home to make it a 4-3 game. It was a clean play by Headley, as Leon was blocking almost the entire plate, but the result is certainly unfortunate. Leon was helped off by a trainer and could barely put any weight on his right leg. This sure looks like the second time a Nationals catcher has suffered a serious leg injury in the last three days. Wilson Ramos tore the ACL in his right knee on Saturday. Jesus Flores came on to replace Leon. For those wondering, Steve Lombardozzi is the Nationals' emergency catcher. The Nationals will now almost certainly need to call up another catcher from the minors for tomorrow's day game against San Diego. Carlos Maldonado, who has been starting for Triple-A Syracuse, could be the guy to get the call. You've got to feel for Leon, who was getting his first taste of major league baseball tonight and quickly is heading for medical attention. It's now 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth as the injuries continue to mount for this Nationals team. Update: According to the Nationals, Leon suffered a sprained right ankle on the plate at the plate. If it's just an ankle sprain, that's good news for both Leon and the Nats. The injury appeared far worse on first glance. The Nats initially announced it was a left ankle sprain for Leon, but it was, in fact, the right ankle which was injured. Washington now leads 6-5 after six innings, with Ian Desmond's two-run double in the sixth putting the Nats on top.
