Some minor matters

Things are going pretty well at the major league level for the Nationals, and within the organization, there's a lot of positive stuff going on at the minor league ranks, as well. Bryce Harper hit his first home run at Triple-A Syracuse yesterday, crushing a 3-1 pitch from Buffalo's Jeurys Familia out to right. It took 16 games and 61 at-bats for Harper to finally go yard with Syracuse, but the Nats' top prospect finds himself in the home run category. Here's video of the Harper home run, which is about as exciting to watch as you might expect a solo home run hit in front of approximately 12 fans to be. Also down on the farm, Double-A Harrisburg's Danny Rosenbaum has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game last Wednesday, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits with nine strikeouts. Rosenbaum retired 13 straight at one point in Wednesday's outing and struck out four of the final seven batters he faced. Overall this season, Rosenbaum has gone 2-0 in three starts, with a 1.25 ERA and league-best 0.65 WHIP. The Nats' 22nd-round pick back in 2009 has 16 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings pitched and has not yet issued a walk this season. Those hoping Tyler Moore will find himself in a Nationals uniform sooner rather than later will like the 25-year-old's stat line at Syracuse: .290, six homers, 16 RBIs in 17 games. Moore continues to get eased into playing time in the outfield, and as our Byron Kerr wrote the other day, is spending some time working with outfield coordinator Tony Tarasco. It's also worth noting that Chiefs starter Yunesky Maya has gotten a strong start to 2012, posting a 2.82 ERA over four starts.
