Some shocking Zimmermann numbers

Believe it or not, Jordan Zimmermann has only one win at Nationals Park since last year's All-Star break. One win. In 11 starts. This despite posting a 3.13 ERA during those 11 outings at home. Zimmermann's last home win came on Aug. 18, 2011. In his eight home starts since, he has an 0-4 record and has received 10 runs of offensive support while in the game. Despite all the talk about the Nationals' two All-Star starters (Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez), Zimmermann currently leads the Nats starters in ERA and innings pitched. He's allowed the fewest walks of any of the Nats' five starters, including Ross Detwiler, who has made four fewer starts and worked 23 2/3 fewer innings than Zimmermann, and has also recorded the highest groundball percentage among Washington starting pitchers. Zimmermann enters tonight's outing against the Giants with a 4-6 record and a 2.77 ERA over 97 1/3 innings pitched this season. Remarkably, he hasn't worked fewer than six innings in any of his 15 starts this season and has yet to allow more than four runs in any single outing. Justin Verlander (17) and Ryan Vogelsong (15) are the only other major league starters to have gone at least six innings in all 15-plus starts they've made this season. The good news for Zimmermann (and his win total) is that the righty beat the Giants twice last season, earning wins on May 1 in D.C. and June 7 in San Francisco. He put up a 2.08 ERA in those two starts. In four career outings against the Giants, which span 25 innings, Zimmermann hasn't allowed a home run and has worked at least six innings every time out.
