Storen has more discomfort, Nady to get minor league action

JUPITER, Fla. - About 90 percent of Davey Johnson's pregame session with reporters consisted of injury discussions. Hey, there's suddenly lots to talk about on that front. Johnson said closer Drew Storen is still feeling some discomfort in his bicep and triceps after playing catch yesterday. The team will take things very carefully with the 24-year-old over the next few days. "Storen is getting further tests on his condition on his arm and he's still had small discomfort when he threw on the side," Johnson said. "His arm is in tremendous shape. His velocity, his movement. He threw a lot of innings last year. With him, I want to make sure he's 100 percent healthy and he doesn't do too much, because he's going to be my closer. "We're just going to be very cautious on him." Of the trio of Michael Morse, Adam LaRoche and Chien-Ming Wang, Johnson said he feels that LaRoche is the most likely to be ready for opening day. So, there's that. Meanwhile, Xavier Nady, who was signed to a minor league deal Sunday, will begin playing in games today. The 33-year-old could be added to the major league roster at some point if the Nationals are still thin at first base and the corner outfield spots, but that likely wouldn't happen for a least a handful of weeks. "He's 10 days to two weeks away from getting in playing shape, like he did last year," Johnson said. "But we were just going to check on him, because he's been a pretty good big league player. If it comes up, he's another good option that Mike Rizzo has provided us."
