Taking a look at the relief options

Yesterday, I discussed the Nationals bullpen, and how they could look to add to that already strong group this offseason, either via free agency or a trade.

The Nats have plenty of talented arms in their system, but that's certainly an area where you can never have enough talent. And don't be shocked if the Nats do choose to bolster their relief corps this offseason.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Nats will have Rafael Soriano's contract coming off the books this offseason, as they almost certainly won't pick up his $14 million club option for 2015.

That should allow the club a bit of financial flexibility this winter, although not all of that money can be directly invested back into the bullpen.

The Nats have a host of players up for raises through the arbitration process, meaning that even if the Nats don't add to their roster, their payroll is likely to increase. They'll have to spend wisely, given their existing contracts and a need to keep some money freed up for possible extensions with Jordan Zimmermann, Ian Desmond, Doug Fister and others.
