#TBT to "Nationals Classics": Taylor's inside-the-park grand slam and Wieters' slam

We're very thankful for "Nationals Classics" during this time of year. With no baseball being played and the holidays approaching, we've stacked not one, but two "Nationals Classics" from this past year into this week's Throwback Thursday.

First up this week is one of the most exciting games we saw in 2017.

After falling behind early to the Phillies on Sept. 8, the Nationals put together a furious comeback behind Michael A. Taylor, who had one the best games of his career.

The highlight of the night was Taylor's inside-the-park grand slam in the third inning to give the Nats the lead. Taylor finished the night 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored in a back-and-forth affair that ended in a dramatic 11-10 victory at Nats Park.

Our next #TBT moment this week is another one of the craziest games we saw this past season, this one coming on the road.

Earlier this month, catcher Matt Wieters excercised his $10.5 million player option to return to the Nationals in 2018. And although Wieters posted one of the worst offensive seasons in his career, he still provided some memorable moments in his first year in D.C.

The most memorable perhaps was his tiebreaking grand slam at Wrigley Field on Aug. 6. After Anthony Rendon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to drive in the tying run, Wieters stepped to the plate and crushed the first pitch he saw out of the park to give the Nats an 8-4 lead.

Brian Goodwin added a solo home run in the ninth inning as the Nationals completed the shocking 9-4 comeback victory on a breezy Sunday afternoon on Chicago's North Side.

Thursday, Nov. 16, 11 a.m. - How many Ryan Zimmerman walk-offs have we already seen this month? Well, get ready to watch him do it again. This walk-off RBI single came on July 6, 2006 against the Marlins for an 8-7 win. These never get old, do they?

Friday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. - The Nationals were a part of baseball history in their 8-6 win over the Giants on Aug. 7, 2007. Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron's all-time record with his 756th career home run in the fifth inning off the Nats' Mike Bacsik.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m. - This May 9, 2016 game against the Tigers is memorable for a couple of reasons. First, Bryce Harper was ejected in the ninth inning for arguing with the umpire from the dugout. And secondly, for Clint Robinson's pinch-hit walk-off home run for a 5-4 win. Robinson told MASN's Dan Kolko in a postgame interview that he didn't realize it was the ninth inning and that he had won the game when he hit the homer.

Monday, Nov. 20, noon - Stephen Strasburg had the best season of his career in 2017 and was rewarded as being named a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award for the first time. Nats fans have known of Strasburg's potential since his major league debut, when he struck out 14 Pirates on June 8, 2010.

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 11:30 a.m. - The classics against the Cubs keep coming. In this game on the Fourth of July in 2011, Jayson Werth stole home on a wild pitch in the 10th inning for a 5-4 walk-off win over the Cubbies.

Wednesday, Nov. 22, noon - The Nationals are no strangers to walk-off grand slams. This one came back on Aug. 19, 2011 off the bat of - who else - Zimmerman to cap a six-run ninth inning and an 8-4 win over the Phillies.
