#TBT to "Nationals Classics": Zimmerman has huge day in rout of Marlins

The story behind the scoresheet: Although Ryan Zimmerman had been in a bit of a slump after the All-Star break, it didn't look like that on Aug. 9 in the Nats' 10-1 win over the Marlins. Zimmerman connected for four hits and two homers (his 25th and 26th of the season) and picked up his 906th career RBI, passing Tim Wallach for most in Nationals/Expos franchise history.

Gio Gonzalez also deserves some praise as he put together another solid outing, going seven innings while allowing just one earned run on seven hits in his 10th win of the season. Gonzalez also held the longest scoreless streak of any Nats starter by the second inning, but that streak ended at 17 when the Marlins scored a run in the fourth inning.

Thursday, Feb. 1, Noon - On April 21, 2015 the Nats took a 1-0 lead over the Cardinals into the ninth inning, but Matt Holliday tied it up with his fourth hit of the game. So naturally, Yunel Escobar had no choice but to win it with a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.

Saturday, Feb. 3, 7:30 p.m. - Watch Jordan Zimmermann throw the first no-hitter in Nats history against the Marlins and hear Bob call Steven Souza Jr.'s unforgettable diving catch on the final day of the 2014 regular season.

Sunday, Feb. 4, 12:30 p.m. - Bryce Harper homered in each of his first two at-bats - one a grand slam - and finished the day 4-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored and five RBIs. Meanwhile, Zimmerman also crushed a grand slam and finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs in the Nationals' 14-4 rout of the Braves at SunTrust Park.

Monday, Feb. 5, 12:30 p.m. - Harper crushed three home runs in his first three at-bats and drove in five runs, as the Nats beat the Marlins 7-5 on May 6, 2015. He became the youngest player in 46 years to hit three home runs in a game at age 22 ...

Tuesday, Feb. 6, 9 a.m. - ... but Harper's feats of strength don't end there. The next game, a Friday night contest against the Braves, he connected twice. And then he hit another one the next day, a two-run shot gave the Nats an 8-6 win over the Braves. That's six home runs in three games, one off the major league record set by Shawn Green in 2002.

Wednesday, Feb,. 7, 11:30 a.m. - Nine years after blasting a walk-off homer against the Yankees' Chien Ming-Wang, Zimmerman did it again against the Bronx Bombers on May 19, 2015 with a 10th-inning two-run shot into right field, capping the Nats' rally from a 6-2 deficit to an 8-6 win. It was his 10th career walk-off homer, which earned him a sweet chocolate syrup shower from Max Scherzer.

Wednesday, Feb. 7, 7 p.m. - Anthony Rendon came out of an early-season slump when he went 6-for-6 (including two singles and a double), blasted three homers and collected a career-high 10 RBIs (his previous career high was four RBIs, which he did four times).
