The homer-fest continues (Nats win 5-1)

Another game, more Nationals longballs. The Nats have played just four innings tonight and they've already smacked three home runs - a solo shot by Kurt Suzuki, a two-run bomb to straightaway center by Ryan Zimmerman and a two-run opposite-field shot by Ian Desmond. That's been nothing unusual over the last week; in the Nationals' last seven games, they've hit 23 homers. Not bad, I guess. The Nats lead the Mets 5-1 after four innings thanks to the homer-fest and four decent innings from Gio Gonzalez. The Nationals lefty has surrendered just a single run, but he's been all over the place at times. Gonzalez has walked five batters already, tying his season high. He's thrown 76 pitches through four, but has himself in decent position to earn his 19th win of the season, which would be the most in the majors. Suzuki continues to rake, hitting his fourth homer in his last 11 games, while Zimmerman (21st homer) and Desmond (22nd homer) each padded their impressive offensive totals. Update: Gonzalez wasn't at his sharpest, but he has tossed six innings of one-run ball and is in line for the win. Over his last three starts, spanning 22 innings, Gonzalez has allowed just a single run. His ERA is down to 2.93, the lowest it's been since July 14, and he's three innings from another victory. The Nats still hold a 5-1 lead in the seventh. Update II: Gonzalez is MLB's first 19-game winner. The lefty moves to 19-7 as the Nationals beat the Mets 5-1. They're now 10-3 in their last 13 games and, for the time being, have a six-game lead over the Braves in the NL East.
