Turner earns another NL Rookie of the Month honor

Trea Turner's odds of winning National League Rookie of the Year are nearly nonexistent, not because of his performance, but because he spent less than half of the season in the big leagues while Corey Seager played the entire year for the Dodgers and posted dynamic numbers across the board.

Turner, though, can take solace knowing he clearly was the league's best rookie through the season's final two months.

Turner Slides Third Gray Sidebar.jpg Having previously won NL Rookie of the Month honors for August, Turner today was named NL Rookie of the Month for September/October, a impressive finish to his impressive year.

Turner hit .339 with five doubles, two triples, eight homers, eight walks, 18 RBIs and 15 stolen bases over the season's final month, solidifying his place as the Nationals' leadoff man and starting center fielder entering the postseason.

The 23-year-old infielder-turned-outfielder wound up hitting .342 with 13 homers, 40 RBIs, 53 runs, 33 stolen bases and a .937 OPS in 72 games played in the majors this year.

Seager, who will be facing the Nationals in the National League Division Series, played in 157 games and hit .308 with 26 homers and an .877 OPS. Take only his second-half stats, though, and the Dodgers shortstop actually was topped by Turner: .321 batting average, nine homers, .876 OPS.
