Werth dealing with biceps strain, Harper sent home due to flu-like symptoms

VIERA, Fla. - Right fielder Jayson Werth was set to make his spring training debut this afternoon against the Marlins, but that will have to wait. Werth was scratched from today's game less than an hour before first pitch due to a right biceps strain, according to Nationals manager Matt Williams. Williams said after the Nats' 10-3 win over the Marlins that Werth felt discomfort in the lower biceps area yesterday. He was originally written into today's lineup but was scratched when the tightness hadn't dissipated by late in the morning. "He was working out (Saturday) and had a little bit of a strain in his bicep," Williams said. "It's just precautionary. He's a little tight in there. Just from working out a little bit. We're going to push him a day or two to make sure. But he's fine. No worries. "He was in (the lineup) today and came in a little bit tight today so I said, 'Listen, we have plenty of time.' Nothing big. Precautionary." Meanwhile, Williams said that left fielder Bryce Harper, who played four innings in yesterday's win over the Braves, was sent home this morning after telling team doctors that he had an upset stomach. "He had flu-like symptoms this morning," Williams said. "He had a little bit of a stomach issue. We got him out of here to make sure he doesn't spread. He didn't feel real good this morning." Harper was scheduled to have today off anyway. Like Werth, Harper is considered day-to-day. The Nationals are on the road the next two days, at Tampa against the Yankees tomorrow and at Lake Buena Vista against the Braves on Tuesday, before returning home to host the Mets on Wednesday.
