The Nationals are optimistic they'll be able to play tonight's game despite the rainy forecast for the D.C. region tonight.
Should tonight's game get rained out before it starts, though, the Nats will just push their starters back and give Stephen Strasburg the ball for the first game of tomorrow's doubleheader. That would mean John Lannan wouldn't be needed tomorrow, which would be a tough break for the lefty, who's already in D.C.
Piggybacking on MASNsports.com's Pete Kerzel's report from Woodbridge, Va., Jayson Werth is no longer in tonight's lineup for Single-A Potomac.
In fact, he's still in the Nationals clubhouse.
With the weather being an issue and Werth feeling some stiffness in his surgically repaired wrist, the outfielder's first rehab game has been pushed back.
He'll likely make his first rehab appearance tomorrow for Potomac.
Manager Davey Johnson said he's been told by the Nationals' training staff that Werth's wrist stiffness is actually a good sign, as it indicates that he's progressing well.
"They said once you get that, you're good to go," Johnson said. "He's going tomorrow. No biggie. Actually good news."
I included the last part of that quote just to let everyone know that Davey Johnson used the phrase "no biggie."
Chad Tracy and Xavier Nady will still play for Potomac tonight. This is the last day for Nady's rehab assignment, and the team will likely make a roster move on him after the game.
The veteran outfielder will either be added to the 25-man roster or designated for assignment.
