Williams on Nats' 10-3 win, Clippard's All-Star selection and second-half rotation

PHILADELPHIA - A handful of topics were discussed in Matt Williams' press conference following today's 10-3 win over the Phillies. You can find all of those topics here. Here's Williams after the win, which leaves the Nats 51-42 and with a share of first place in the National League East going into the All-Star break. On the offensive explosion today: "Momentum early for us with Jayson (Werth) hitting the homer. It set the tone real well for Tanner (Roark). He pitched well again for us. It was a great way to end the first half. We've got some fellas that are dragging. They stepped up today." On whether he addressed the team going into the break: "Yeah, I've talked to everybody. Getting an idea of where everybody is going and what they're doing and what the plan is. They'll be ready to go on Thursday, run around and take some batting practice and get prepared for Friday." On looking forward to the second half: "I don't know about looking too far ahead. We've got to win the first game first. Enjoy the family, rest, make sure that you get some active rest as well. We'll have a workout Thursday and play Friday." On Tanner Roark today, after he allowed one run over seven innings: "Not as many curveballs today as normal. But he established fastball early, first time around the lineup, both sides of the plate and throw to where he wanted to. It was a little heavy day out there today. Muggy and not a whole lot of wind, down on the field anyway. He threw his change-up later. Threw his curveballs occasionally and worked his way through the lineup." On whether he discussed Nats that could make the All-Star team with Mike Matheny, who is managing the NL squad: "I've talked to Mike over the last few days. Again, a lot was riding on who was pitching today who was originally on the club. I guess there were a couple other changes, too. ... I'm happy for Clip." On how the rotation will look coming out of the break: "We're wondering on Zim and we have to see how he reacts over the next few days. But as of right now, Stras will start the first game, we'll go to Gio the second game and Doug. And by that time we'll have a good indication on Zim and Tanner of course. Probably throwing on the off-day and see how he feels and then make a decision from there." On whether Zimmermann could still end up on the DL: "Depending on how he comes out of it. Thursday. We'll give him a few days. ... No decision until he throws."
