The Nationals have no plans to place Jordan Zimmermann on the disabled list at the moment, manager Matt Williams told the media after tonight's win.
The right-hander's MRI results came back positive, revealing only a slight biceps strain in his pitching arm.
That's good news for a pitcher who had Tommy John surgery in 2009 and is a relief for the club.
Zimmermann had to leave his start Friday after just 49 pitches and 3 1/3 innings. He didn't seem overly concerned at the time.
"The shoulder feels fine," Zimmermann said. "Elbow feels great. They did all the tests and everything was good. Everything was strong. I'm not too worried. I just think the biceps (is) a little ticked off right now. Hopefully a couple days off and it should be better."
The injury will still cost Zimmermann an appearance in the All-Star Game for the second straight year. Zimmermann is 6-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 19 starts this season, and it remains to be seen whether he'll be able to take his next turn in the rotation.
