Zimmermann finishes a stellar spring, Ramos done after three innings (Nats win 4-0)

NATIONALS QUICK WRAP Score: Nationals 4, Mets 0 Summary: Jordan Zimmermann went five scoreless innings, and Rafael Soriano, Tyler Clippard, Drew Storen and Jerry Blevins combined to go four scoreless with three hits allowed and seven strikeouts. Danny Espinosa went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, Denard Span had three hits and has a .370 average this spring, and Bryce Harper had two hits, including a single off the left field wall and an RBI knock on a liner up the middle. Need to know: Spring numbers mean nothing, but Zimmermann was tremendous down here in Florida and sure looks ready for the season. Zimmermann worked five scoreless innings today against the Mets, allowing four hits, walking none and striking out three. He threw 71 pitches, 53 for strikes. I say that when guys have rough statistical springs, so it's important to note it when guys dominate in spring, as well. Zimmermann was hit on the back of the right leg by a David Wright comebacker in the first inning, prompting manager Matt Williams, pitching coach Steve McCatty and team trainers to come out to the mound to check on the right-hander. Zimmermann shooed them all away and stayed in the game. This is a guy, after all, who pitched with a broken jaw in college. A bruise on the back of his right thigh probably won't bother him too much. The Nationals right-hander also drove in the only run of the game to this point. Zimmermann's infield single to the left side with the bases loaded plated Wilson Ramos, and the Nats lead 1-0 here in the sixth. Ramos left today's game after just three innings, but a Nationals spokesperson said that Ramos isn't injured. It was just a short day of work for the Nats' starting catcher, who is now hitting .385 this spring. Rafael Soriano worked the sixth for the Nats after Zimmermann left the game, and while the closer allowed a couple of hard-hit balls, he worked a scoreless frame, striking out Curtis Granderson looking at a nasty slider to end the inning and leave two runners in scoring position.
