Zimmermann's streak comes to an end (Harper homers)

Miguel Cabrera's incredibly impressive start to the season continues. Jordan Zimmermann's incredibly impressive scoreless innings streak comes to an end. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on Cabrera's RBI single to left, scoring Torii Hunter. Cabrera now has 37 RBIs on the season, best in the majors, and he's now batting .387, also tops in the big leagues. He's decent, I guess. That run is the first one Zimmermann has allowed in more than 20 innings. The Nationals right-hander had thrown 20 straight scoreless frames, dating back four starts to his April 21 outing against the Mets. The 20-inning scoreless stretch matches Zimmermann's career high, set last season. Zimmermann has needed 51 pitches to get through three innings of work, having allowed three hits and walked two. He hasn't been as sharp as he was his last two times out, when he allowed just five baserunners total over a 17-inning span. He's matched that total tonight in three frames. The Nats evened the score in the bottom of the third on Bryce Harper's sac fly to left. Denard Span, who had tripled to right leading off the frame, came on in to tie it up. It's a 1-1 game through three. Update: Ah, the speed of Adam LaRoche. It strikes again. LaRoche, probably the slowest position player on the Nationals' roster, tagged up from second on a fly ball to right, and when Torii Hunter's throw got away and hit a camera in the photographers' well, LaRoche was awarded home. His run scored gives the Nats a 2-1 lead after four. Over the last three games, LaRoche has now stolen a base and induced a throwing error that allowed him to score. Watch out, world. He's a menace on the basepaths. LaRoche continues to heat up, by the way. He's now 2-for-2 tonight and has reached base safely in 13 of his last 19 plate appearances. Danny Espinosa is also starting to warm; he's 2-for-2 today and is 5-for-13 over his last four games. Update II: Harper's 10th homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center, has given the Nationals a 3-1 lead as we go to the sixth. Harper turned on a first-pitch curve from Anibal Sanchez and gave it a ride. He now has a triple and a homer in five official at-bats against Sanchez in his career.
