A few notes on today's win and sweep of Arizona

The Orioles pitching staff made an early two-run home run stand up today as they beat Arizona 2-1 on a four-hitter to complete a three-game sweep.

It was a big win for the Orioles (85-71), who swept Arizona after being swept in four straight by Boston. If Detroit loses against Kansas City, the O's will open a lead of 1 1/2 games for the second AL wild card spot. Toronto beat New York to remain 1 1/2 games up on the Orioles for the first AL wild card. The Orioles begin a three-game series Tuesday night at Toronto.

A few notes on the win:

* Right-hander Dylan Bundy got the victory, allowing one run and three hits over five innings. O's starters in this series - Yovani Gallardo, Wade Miley and Bundy - combined to allow four runs and 16 hits over 19 2/3 innings for an ERA of 1.83.

* The Orioles finished with their most wins ever in interleague play, going 14-6 versus the National League in 2016.

* The O's bullpen recorded four scoreless today on just one hit. Mychal Givens went two innings, Brad Brach pitched the eighth and Zach Britton the ninth for his 46th save in 46 chances. The bullpen in this three-game series: 10 1/3 innings, four hits, no runs, one walk and 15 strikeouts.

* The Orioles swept this series while scoring just 11 runs. They hit six homers, accounting for seven of those 11 runs.

* The Orioles end their home schedule with a record of 50-31. This is the 12th time in team history a team won 50 or more home games.

Today's game blog: After posting wins of 3-2 in 12 innings on Friday night and 6-1 last night, the Orioles look to complete a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks this afternoon at Camden Yards.

The Orioles begin today leading the race for the second American League wild card by a half-game over Detroit, 2 1/2 games over Seattle and three games over Houston. The Orioles are 1 1/2 games back of Toronto for the AL's top wild card spot.

The Orioles will play a total of 20 games against National League opponents this season including San Diego (3-1), Los Angeles (2-1), Colorado (1-2), San Francisco (2-1), Washington (3-1), and Arizona (2-0). Since interleague play began in 1997, the Orioles are 174-188. Baltimore's 13 interleague victories this season (13-6 record) are the most in club history. They won 12 games versus the National League in 2014 and 2015.

Bundy-Throws-White-Sidebar.jpgOn the mound today, the Orioles send rookie right-hander Dylan Bundy (9-6, 4.13 ERA) out to make his 14th start against Arizona right-hander Braden Shipley (4-4, 5.49 ERA).

Bundy gave up five runs and six hits over five innings on Monday against Boston, throwing a career-high 99 pitches. The Orioles are 7-6 in his 13 starts.

For the season, Bundy is at 104 2/3 innings, allowing 106 hits, including 18 home runs, along with 41 walks, 99 strikeouts and a .261 batting average against. He yields an average of .255 versus left-handed batters and .269 against right-handed hitters. When pitching with runners in scoring position, Bundy gives up just a .213 average.

He has allowed five runs in four of his last seven starts, going 3-3 with a 6.62 ERA in that span. In four starts this month, he is 2-1 with a 5.95 ERA. In 18 home games (seven starts), Bundy is 4-3 with a 3.26 ERA.

Shipley had pitched in 11 games, making nine starts for Arizona. In his last outing, a start on Monday against San Diego, he went four innings, allowing six hits and three runs (two earned) on 85 pitches. For the season, he has thrown 59 innings, allowing 69 hits, including 12 homers, with 23 walks, 34 strikeouts and a .300 average against. Shipley also made 19 starts this year for Triple-A Reno, going 8-5 with a 3.70 ERA.

First inning - 1.00 ERA
Second inning - 1.00 ERA
Third inning - 3.27 ERA
Fourth inning - 4.09 ERA
Fifth inning - 8.10 ERA
Sixth inning - 15.43 ERA

Lefty batters hit .262 off Shipley and right-handed batter feast off him with an average of .360, a slugging percentage of .573 and OPS of 1.010 against the right-hander.

Mark Trumbo hit his 45th home run on Saturday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Trumbo and Chris Davis, who hit 47 home runs last season, are the first pair of players to hit at least 45 homers each for the same team in consecutive seasons since Manny Ramirez (45 in 2005) and David Ortiz (in 2006) did so for the Boston Red Sox.
