Today, I will be taking a look at some stats and information, and ending this blog with a question. Some of the stats are courtesy of the Orioles public relations staff, some from FanGraphs.com and some from the Melewski research bureau.
* Since 2012, the Orioles lead the majors with 854 home runs. That is 62 homers ahead of the next closest team, the Toronto Blue Jays, at 792.
* Manny Machado is the active major league leader in consecutive games played at 162. According to STATS, LLC., Kole Calhoun of the Los Angeles Angels ranks second at 153 games. Machado played in all 162 regular season games this season, the only player to accomplish the feat this year. He became the first Oriole to do so since Adam Jones in 2012 and is the ninth Oriole to accomplish the feat. The others are Jones, B.J. Surhoff, Bobby Grich, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Miguel Tejada and Rafael Palmeiro.
* Since 2012, the Orioles bullpen has earned the most saves (208), registered the third-lowest ERA (3.20) and pitched the third-most innings (2,086) in Major League Baseball.
Since 2012, the Orioles lead the American League in wins:
355 - Orioles
351 - Yankees
350 - Angels
346 - A's
345 - Tigers
* Machado was one of four players in the majors to hit 20 or more homers and steal 20 or more bases in 2015. Machado hit 35 homers with 20 steals. The others were Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt (33 homers/21 steals) and A.J. Pollock (20 homers/39 steals) and Milwaukee's Ryan Braun (25 homers/24 steals).
* Wei-Yin Chen held opponents to a .170 batting average with runners in scoring position, which ranked first among all qualifying starting pitchers in the majors.
* Kevin Gausman is 9-7 with an ERA of 3.83 in 39 career outings (21 starts) against AL East opponents.
* Brad Brach led O's relievers and ranked fifth among AL relievers with 89 strikeouts. Brach ranked 20th with 10.10 strikeouts per nine innings.
* Darren O'Day finished third among AL relievers in ERA (1.52), tied for fourth in wins (six) and was seventh in strikeouts (82). His mark of 11.3 strikeouts per every nine innings was a career best.
O's leaders in batting average with runners in scoring position (minimum 50 at-bats):
.316 - Caleb Jospeph
.315 - Jimmy Paredes
.298 - Manny Machado
.289 - Chris Davis
.281 - Adam Jomes
* The best RISP average by an Oriole with no limit on the number of at-bats was pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. He hit .667, going 2-for-3. Both Henry Urruita (6-for-12) and Mike Wright (1-for-2) hit .500 with RISP.
* Two Orioles had a walk rate of greater than 10 percent. They were Davis at 12.5 and Nolan Reimold at 11.8. Machado ranked third on the team at 9.8. That was a big increase for Machado, who had a walk rate of 4.5 in 2012, 4.1 in 2013 and 5.6 in 2014.
* The Orioles' leaders in isolated power were Davis (.300), Machado (.216), Chris Parmelee (.216), Jones (.205), Steve Pearce (.204) and Jonathan Schoop (.203).
* Orioles batters produced 17 multi-homer games in 2015 - Davis led with eight and Machado had four. Jones hit two, and they got one each from Pearce, Parmelee and Delmon Young.
Now a question: Rank these six Orioles free agents from most to least likely to re-sign with the club: Chen, Davis, Day, Gerardo Parra, Pearce and Matt Wieters.
