A few stats, quotes and notes on O's impressive home record

The Orioles' win last night over Chicago improved their home record to 8-1. That is the best home record in the major leagues. Kansas City, at 8-3, has the second-best American League home record.

The Orioles have pitched well at home this year with an ERA of 2.09 and a .219 batting average against. They have outscored their opponents 42-21 and out-homered them 13-6 at Camden Yards, where they have a team batting average of .299.

The Orioles hit three homers in last night's 10-2 win. Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo hit back-to-back homers in the third inning. Manny Machado hit a grand slam, the second of his career, in the sixth inning. He had a career-high five RBIs.

Trumbo is batting .394 at home and enjoys hitting at the Yard.

"You see the ball really well here," he said. "I'm not sure why - maybe the hitter's eye. Sometimes you can't really explain it. But coming here over the years, it's really been a pleasurable experience. The numbers have been OK, I think. I think the home runs have mainly been to center field."

Trumbo began last night with a .414 batting average this year at home, but he didn't have a single extra-base hit or RBI at Camden Yards, while he has hit five homers with 17 RBIs in road games. But his solo homer gave him his first home RBI of the 2016 season.

Machado has hit very well at home this year, batting .459 with five doubles, five homers and 13 RBIs to go with a 1.000 slugging percentage and 1.512 OPS. Yes, that is pretty good.

Joey Rickard, whose three-run homer provided all the O's offense Wednesday night against Tampa Bay, added two hits and a walk last night. Rickard is batting .472 at Camden Yards, going 17-for-36.

Right-hander Tyler Wilson made his second start of the year last night and gave up four hits and two runs over 4 2/3 innings. He came up an out short of qualifying for the win. That was disappointing to him, but Wilson is still building up his pitch count as a starter. He threw 70 pitches on Saturday night at Kansas City and threw 91 pitches last night.

Knowing that means he soon can throw 100 or more pitches as a starter was something to like about last night for the right-hander.

"Definitely, that is a positive with how tonight went." Wilson said. "Unfortunately, I didn't go deep into the game, but did allow my pitch count to get a little higher. That is a positive and I'd like to stretch that out over a few more frames."

Wilson has a 2.79 ERA over three games at home this year and a career home ERA of 2.14 over seven games and three starts at Camden Yards.

The Orioles 15 hits was a season high and their 10 runs scored is one off their season-high of 11 runs on April 15 at Texas. Meanwhile, O's starting pitchers have worked to an ERA of 2.42 over the last four games. O's pitchers have allowed just eight runs over those four games.
