A look at Machado's doubles, Davis against Texas and the chance for a road series win

Don't look now, but Manny Machado is in the midst of a slight doubles drought. He has just one over his last 14 games. Machado has 39 doubles on the year and is on a pace to finish with 65, but that would leave him two short of the all-time record for doubles in one year. Earl Webb had 67 in 1931. If Machado did produce 65 doubles, he would easily set a new Orioles single-season record, passing the mark of Brian Roberts, who hit 56 in 2009. Machado had 11 doubles in 27 games in April, 14 in 28 games in May and 13 in 28 June games. He has just one in 14 July games. While he no longer is ahead of the pace of the Earl of Doublin', he still leads Major League Baseball with those 39 doubles and he has nine more than any other player. So he's still doing quite well in this stat category. Meanwhile, Chris Davis is struggling against him former team. A fifth-round draft pick of the Rangers in 2006, Davis played in the Texas organization from 2006 until his trade to the Orioles on July 30, 2011. This season, Davis has homered off the Rangers, but that is his only hit and he is 1-for-17 with 11 strikeouts against the Rangers staff. In his career against Texas, he is 3-for-34 (.088) with 20 strikeouts. As for the O's, a win tonight or tomorrow will give the Orioles their first road series win since they took two of three at Detroit from June 17-19. Since then, they had gone 0-3 at Toronto and 1-2 at Chicago and New York. They had lost four of their last five series heading into the weekend series at Texas.
