The Orioles and their fans could get used to pitching like this. Here are some updated O's pitching stats:
* The Orioles have a 1.33 ERA over their last three games, allowing just eight hits in 27 innings. The O's have allowed three or fewer hits for three consecutive games for the first time since July 17-19, 1992. The team record is four straight games set Sept. 2-6, 1974.
* The team's ERA is 2.57 over the last 27 games and the Orioles have allowed two runs or fewer 14 times in that span.
* The Orioles bullpen has pitched to an ERA of 0.96, allowing just two earned runs the last seven games.
* The Orioles have a major league-best 30-13 (.698) record since June 30 with an ERA of 2.89.
* In the last 63 games since June 9, O's starters have pitched to an ERA of 3.18 and the team is 41-22.
Courtesy of a graphic on "O's Xtra" postgame last night on MASN HD, here is the O's starting pitching this year month by month:
* 8-10 with 4.74 ERA in March/April
* 10-10 with 4.29 ERA in May
* 13-7 with 3.47 ERA in June
* 9-4 with 3.29 ERA in July
* 11-4 with 3.39 ERA in August
Dare we say it, but the Orioles now feature some of the best pitching in the American League. Maybe the national analysts would not rank their rotation as the equal to some of the other playoff contenders, but the stats tell a different story.
Ryan Webb had an ERA of 2.48 at the end of June and got sent to Triple-A. Miguel Gonzalez has pitched to an ERA of 2.43 his last six starts and he was sent to the minors, but is finally coming back.
Not bad for a team that hasn't had a winning streak longer than five games and that was back in May.
The Orioles starters are seemingly getting better and pitching deeper into games as the season goes on. The back end of their bullpen is exceptional.
The pitchers are on a roll and they're building momentum like a train rolling downhill right now. In the distance, you can see one exit sign and it says division title. A little further, there is one that says October playoff baseball.
