A look at the latest comeback win on this road trip

The Orioles have been the comeback kids on this road trip to Washington and Philadelphia. They won this afternoon and are 5-0 on this trip. Four of the wins have been come-from-behind victories.

Today the offense erupted for four runs in the fifth, two runs two innings later, three more in the eighth and two in the ninth to produce an 11-4 win over the Phillies. They improved to 10-7 and completed their second three-game sweep of the year. The Orioles have won five in a row and are 7-1 on the road. They've scored 54 runs over the last seven games as one of the league's best offenses was humming again today.

The O's rallies on this trip:

* Saturday night, they trailed 3-0 at the end of seven innings at Washington and won 5-3
* Tuesday night, they trailed 3-0 at the end of five innings at Philly and won 10-9 in 10 innings
* Wednesday night, they trailed 3-1 at the end of three innings at Philly and won 5-4
* Today they were down 2-0 through four innings and won by seven runs

As they had done in previous games against the likes of Stephen Strasburg and Zack Wheeler, the Orioles offense didn't do much early in this game, then rose up suddenly in the middle innings.

Down 2-0 in the top of the fifth, the offense struck for four runs and four hits to knock former Oriole Jake Arrieta from the game. They hit several balls hard as Arrieta's location, which was very strong early on, was not so much that inning.

Renato Núñez led off with a single into left and one out later moved to second on Pedro Severino's single. When Austin Hays singled, the bases were loaded. Then Pat Valaika drilled a smash up the middle, but second baseman Jean Segura dove to glove it and turn it into a force at second, though a run did score. It was almost an inning-ending double play. Hanser Alberto then walked to reload the bases. Anthony Santander unloaded them with a three-run double to deep right for a 4-2 lead that ended Arrieta's night. Santander drilled a 2-1 fastball to give the O's the lead.

Santander has now driven in at least one run in seven straight games, with 12 RBIs in that span. He now has 19 RBIs on the year is among the American League leaders.

The O's smoked several balls that inning off Arrieta. They produced hits at 97, 108, 100, 99 and 107 mph. It was a stunning display of offense after Arrieta held them scoreless through four innings on 48 pitches.

Thomas Eshelman threw a solid five innings today to get the win and is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.65. He allowed four hits and two runs to pick up his second career O's win. J.T. Realmuto's two-run homer in the fourth gave Philly a brief 2-0 lead.

A half-inning later, the comeback kids and one of the AL's best offenses were at it again. José Iglesias drilled a two-run double in the seventh for a 6-2 lead. When Severino blasted a three-run homer in the eighth, the lead grew to 9-2. It was his fourth homer. Rio Ruiz hit his fifth home run, a two-run shot in the ninth.

That offense has produced 10 or more hits in nine games and the Orioles are 8-1 in those outings.

Now the O's head home with a chance to win the suspended game tomorrow with Washington at 5:05 p.m. before the regularly scheduled nine-inning game. They'll be the road team in that first game and a victory would give the Orioles a perfect 6-0 road trip to Washington and Philadelphia that ends in Baltimore.

Hey, it's 2020 and strange things happen. Like the Orioles starting the year with 10 wins in 17 games.
