A look at the Orioles' recent winning ways against the Red Sox

From 2006-09, the Orioles went 3-15, 6-12, 6-12 and then 2-16 in the season series against the Boston Red Sox. Looks like those days are over. Last year, the Orioles went 13-5 against the Red Sox. With last night's win, the Orioles are 3-1 this season against Boston. The Orioles have now won 12 of the last 16 against Boston. Since July 19, 2011, they are 22-9 against Boston. They have won five straight and eight of the last nine series between the teams. "We believe we can play with anybody," Adam Jones said. "The Red Sox, we've just played them tough. I don't want to jinx this team, but we are just going out there and competing and right now we are able to score one more run than them." Tommy Hunter said it was big last night to get the opener of this key series. "Yeah, especially against these guys - AL East, big opponent," Hunter said. "Get one and hopefully we get a couple more. This was a big one and we're glad to come out on top." The Orioles have been doing that a lot lately against the Red Sox. The O's are the only AL East team Boston doesn't have a winning record against this year: 4-2 vs. New York 7-2 vs. Tampa Bay 5-4 vs. Toronto 1-3 vs. Baltimore In four games in 2013 against the Orioles, Boston is batting .197 as a team with 14 runs scored, a .238 OBP and a .596 OPS. From the last out of the seventh inning to the end of the game last night, Boston batters went a combined 0-for-19 versus five different O's relief pitchers. As you could see with Jones' quotes above, the Orioles know things can change fast in this game. They are not at all gloating about beating Boston because they still have so many games to play. But the days of the O's being the Sox' doormat sure look to be over.
