A look at the Orioles' top 30 prospects per Baseball America

According to the Baseball American Prospect Handbook (which went to press in early December), here are the players rated 11 through 30 with a comment on each and where they might begin the 2016 season. Keep in mind that players that still have rookie eligibility yet have already played in the majors retain prospect status for this list.

11) Tanner Scott: The Orioles signed this sixth-round pick to an overslot $650,000 bonus after selecting him in 2014 out of a Texas junior college. With a fastball that has touched 101 mph, if his command improves this year, the O's could have something special here. Predicted start: Advanced Single-A Frederick.

12) Jason Garcia: A Rule 5 pick in 2014, Garcia can now be optioned to the minors and will likely start the season there. He showed nice improvement in the majors last year, pitching to an ERA of 2.81 in August and September. Predicted start: Double-A Bowie.

13) Dariel Alvarez: He had a slash line of .306/.330/.472 in 2014 between Double-A and Triple-A and that was .277/.309/.729 last year with Triple-A Norfolk. He doesn't walk or strikeout much. Improved plate discipline could be the key for his hopes to make the majors. Predicted start: Norfolk.

14) Christian Walker: He hit 26 homers in 2014 and was the club's minor league Player of the Year. He had a strong second half at Triple-A last summer, slugging .515 with an OPS of .856. Will this first sacker see some outfield time this year to expand his resume? Predicted start: Norfolk.

15) Jonah Heim: He was one of three high school catchers the Orioles drafted in the first six rounds in 2013. A switch-hitter, his defense is very solid and ahead of his offense right now. Predicted start: Frederick.

16) Tim Berry: The Orioles lost Berry to Miami right before Christmas via a waiver claim. The club's No. 6 prospect at the end of 2013 and No. 7 a year later, he struggled last year going 2-7 with an ERA of 7.32 at Double-A Bowie.

17) Ofelky Peralta: This big, strong, 18-year-old righty from the Dominican Republic was signed for $325,000 in September of 2013. Showing a mid-90s fastball, Peralta made some command gains during instructional league working with Ramon Martinez. Predicted start: Single-A Delmarva.

18) David Hess: Hess was dynamic in the second half last year. Over 16 starts - 12 at Frederick and four at Bowie, two in the playoffs - he went 10-1 with a 1.58 ERA. Hess used a solid four-pitch mix led by a fastball that sits between 91 and 94 mph. Predicted start: Bowie's rotation.

19) Tyler Wilson: He doesn't throw that hard and he never seems to rate too highly on these lists. But Wilson, the club's 2014 minor league Pitcher of the Year, made the majors last summer and showed some promise. He pitched to an ERA of 4.32 as a starter and 1.64 in the bullpen. Predicted start: Norfolk's rotation.

20) Lazaro Leyva: The Orioles signed this Cuban right-hander in September 2014 to a $725,000 bonus. The 21-year-old was described as someone early in the development process and one with a plus fastball with below average control and command. His fastball sits between 93 and 96 mph. Predicted start: Delmarva.

21) Oliver Drake: After eight seasons in the minors and two separate stints on the 40-man roster, Drake finally made the majors in 2015. He certainly could find his way onto the roster this year as well. He was named the best reliever in the International League for 2015 by Baseball America with an ERA of 0.82. Predicted start: Norfolk.

22) Parker Bridwell: He made his Double-A debut in 2015, pitching well before his year ended a month early due to elbow tendinitis. He's now healthy, on the 40-man roster and in big league camp. He might make a run at an O's roster spot this year. Predicted start: Bowie's rotation.

23) Ariel Miranda: He signed with the Orioles last May after pitching seven seasons in Cuba, beginning his career at 17. He went 22-25 with a 3.78 ERA in Cuba's Serie Nacional. Miranda showed a fastball that sits between 90 and 92, touching 94 with an athletic, easy delivery. Predicted start: Bowie's rotation.

24) Gray Fenter: The Orioles saw Fenter touch 97 mph during his high school senior season and often sit 93 to 95. They signed this 2015 seventh-round pick to a well overslot bonus of $1 million. In the Gulf Coast League, he pitched to a 1.66 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 22 innings. Fenter throws a fastball, hard curveball, slider and changeup. Predicted start: Delmarva.

25) Mike Yastrzemski: He spent the 2015 season at Double-A with a slash line of .246/.316/.372. But he truly elevated his play in the postseason, batting .406 with 10 extra-base hits in nine games as Bowie won the Eastern League championship. Predicted start: Bowie.

26) Garrett Cleavinger: The Orioles saw Cleavinger touch 97 mph in the Cape Cod League in the summer of 2014 and they drafted him in Round 3 last June out of the University of Oregon. With some deception in his delivery, he projects as a power lefty reliever. Predicted start: Delmarva.

27) Alex Murphy: The O's drafted this hometown kid in Round 6 of 2013. Murphy grew up near Frederick and played in high school at Baltimore's Calvert Hall. He shows good bat speed with some power but missed time last year due to sports hernia surgery. Drafted as a catcher, he could also see time at first base this season. Predicted start: Frederick.

28) Josh Hart: Hart played a full season in the Carolina League at age 20 in 2015, putting up modest numbers, but there are still plenty of reasons to like the player the Orioles selected with the 37th overall pick out of a Georgia high school in 2013. A center fielder, he continues to work on the small-ball elements he will need to advance his career. Predicted start: Frederick.

29) Branden Kline: Kline began 2015 in the Double-A rotation but left his start May 20 with elbow discomfort. He had a PRP injection and eventually resumed a throwing program. But pitching in his second game at instructional league, Kline felt more discomfort and Dr. James Andrews performed Tommy John surgery Oct. 8. He will likely miss the entire 2016 season.

30) Glynn Davis: Davis continued his slow but steady climb up the O's organization ladder with a full season at Double-A in 2015. He hits much better against left-handed pitching with an average of .340 last summer for Bowie. Davis is one of the fastest runners in the organization and can play all three outfield spots. Predicted start: Bowie.

Nothing is firm on where these players will start the year and this is just a best guess for now.
