A look at the Orioles' two Complex League rosters

When play begins today in the short-season Rookie-level Florida Complex League (the former Gulf Coast League), the Orioles will have two teams beginning play to join the four full-season affiliates that have been playing since May 4 on the farm. In July, the O's will field two teams in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League.

The two Complex League teams will feature a very, very heavy international flavor that will include 12 players that were part of the Orioles' first international signing class under executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias and senior director of international scouting Koby Perez from July 2019.

The teams feature just three players that were drafted by the Orioles, with most international signings. But they include 19-year-old infielder Coby Mayo, who was selected in round four last year (selection No. 103 overall) and signed to an overslot bonus of $1.75 million, which was above the slot amount for that pick of $565,600.

Mayo was slowed for a time this spring by a knee injury suffered during an April minor league spring training game that he talked about in this entry. Mayo batted .455 in eight games before baseball was shut down last spring. The Coral Springs, Fla., native batted .387/.539/.706 in his high school career. Scouts say he showed some big raw power and put a 65 grade on his arm strength.

Mayo is the club's No. 14 prospect per MLBPipeline.com and No. 30 on Baseball America's list.

The other two draft picks are right-handed pitcher Yeancarlos Lleras from Puerto Rico, selected in round six of 2018. He was drafted at 17 and scouts saw him throw a good slider with some mid-90s velocity. Outfielder Craig Lewis was selected in round 33 in 2019.

The players with the three highest signing bonuses from that 2019-2020 international class are on these rosters. They are lefty hitting outfielder Luis Gonzalez from the Dominican Republic, who signed for $475,000; shortstop Leonel Sanchez of the Dominican, who signed for $400,000; and lefty pitcher Luis Ortiz from the Dominican, who also signed for $400,000 and has a fastball that can touch the mid-90s.

Gonzalez is ranked as the club's No. 28 prospect via MLBPipeline.com and No. 24 by Baseball America. Ortiz is rated No. 30 by MLBPipeline.com.

Prado and Romero were players the Orioles acquired from Boston when the club traded pitcher Andrew Cashner on July 13, 2019.

The Orange team roster includes four right-handed pitchers with the team on injury rehab assignments. They are Dan Hammer, Dallas Litscher, Conner Loeprich and Rickey Ramirez.

Deson was acquired by the Orioles as the player to be named later in the deal that sent Mychal Givens to Colorado last August where the Orioles got Terrin Vavra and Tyler Nevin.

Opening day is today in this league and the games will run through Sept. 18.

Alan Mills will manage the Black team and Kevin Bradshaw will skipper the Orange team.

Mills will be assisted by pitching coach Adam Bleday, hitting coach Branden Becker, fundamentals coach Christian Frias and development coach Zach Cole.

Bradshaw is aided by pitching coach Joseph Haumacher, hitting coach Anthony Villa, fundamentals coach Collin Woody and development coach Adam Shuck.

The teams, when home, play at Ed Smith Stadium. Fans can attend the games and gates open 15 minutes before gametime. Fans can park in the East Lot at the stadium.
