A rare Fenway winning streak

Okay, I know you can't call two wins in a row a winning streak. Taking a liberty here, but the O's now do have a two-game winning "streak" at Fenway Park. They beat the Sox 6-1 on the Fourth of July in the final game of a series and followed it up with last night's 4-2 victory. Both games were started by Brian Matusz, by the way. Why is this important? Because it is the first time the O's have put together back-to-back wins at Fenway since May 30, 2005. Yes, that is over five years ago. From September 22, 2004 to May 30, 2005, the O's won four straight at Fenway. That is the last time they put together even two wins consecutively there until last night. With a win in either of the next two games, the O's would take a three-game at series at Fenway for the first time since July 21-22 of 2004. They played a doubleheader in that series. What time is the parade? Cross another one off Buck's to do list. Some other O's stats to consider: *After Matusz allowed just one run last night, O's starters have now given up one earned run or less in eight of their last 11 outings. *Over the last two games, the O's bullpen has combined to pitch 11 1/3 innings allowing just one run with 13 strikeouts. *In the two games, Luke Scott is 4 for 5 with a homer, 3 RBI, a double and two runs scored. *Before Monday's win, the O's had lost 17 of their last 20 games at Fenway Park and were just 10-36 there since June 2, 2005. *With his two doubles last night, Nick Markakis now has 43 on the year. He is just the third player in baseball history with 43 or more four straight seasons, joining Joe Medwick (1935-39) and Tris Speaker (1920-23), both are whom are in the Hall of Fame. *Markakis now has a 16-game hitting streak at Fenway Park, batting .406-3-12, going 26 for 64. *The O's have now won five games in a row on a Monday after starting the year 0-8. *The O's are 11-8 vs. AL East teams under Buck Showalter after going 10-35 before Showalter. The Orioles are 9-3 in their last 12 games vs. the East. *Before Buck, the O's were 14-40 on the road and they are 12-7 since he became manager in road games. *The Orioles began the second half with a record of 3-14. They are now 31-31 since the All-Star game. *Clay Buchholz starts for Boston tonight. He is 16-7, 2.48 on the year and is 3-0, 0.41 in his last three starts vs. the O's, including a complete-game win at Baltimore on June 4th. He no-hit the Birds on 9-1-07. Tonight's O's starter, Brad Bergesen, has pitched to an ERA of 2.39 over his last nine starts. *O's starting pitchers now have an ERA of 2.52 over the last 13 games and 3.06 in the 45 games under Showalter. On the season, O's starters have recorded 73 quality starts after just 58 all of last year.
