Aaron Baker and Sander Beck among latest released from O's minors

Former University of Maryland Terrapin pitcher Sander Beck and first baseman Aaron Baker were among five players released today by the Orioles at minor league camp. The Orioles also released first baseman Henry Wrigley, and left-handed pitchers Zach Fowler and Steve Garrison, bringing the number of players released since spring training began to 18. A 23-year-old right-hander, Beck went 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA over 20 2/3 innings last season for Single-A Delmarva. The Millersville, Md., native was the Orioles' 33rd-round pick in 2011. He led short-season Single-A Aberdeen with 59 strikeouts when he was 4-3 with a 2.44 ERA during the 2012 season. Baker, 26, was acquired by the Orioles on July 30, 2011 when then-GM Andy MacPhail traded first baseman Derrek Lee to Pittsburgh. Baker hit 22 homers for Single-A Frederick in 2012 which was second most among O's minor league players. Last year, he batted .224 with six homers and 26 RBIs for Frederick and Double-A Bowie. The 24-year-old Fowler spent three seasons in the O's organization after being drafted in round 34 of 2011 out of Texas Tech. For Frederick last season, he was 3-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 37 games over 73 2/3 innings with 28 walks and 55 strikeouts. The 27-year-old Garrison was in his first season in the organization. In 2013 for Double-A Mobile in the Arizona organization, he went 1-1 with a 3.30 ERA over 47 games. Garrison pitched in one major league game, working 2/3 of inning without allowing a run for the Yankees in 2011. Wrigley, 27, was in his first year with the Orioles. For Double-A Tulsa of the Texas League in the Colorado organization last season, he batted .188 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 31 games. Wrigley was a Tampa Bay Rays 10th-round pick in 2005.
