Adam Jones on the win, Yovani Gallardo on his outing

Tonight, the Orioles followed up their walk-off win via Nolan Reimold's pinch-hit two-run homer with a walk-off win on an error as they beat the Rockies 3-2 in 10 innings.

Adam Jones charged down the line from third on a grounder back to the mound in the 10th. Colorado right-hander Jordan Lyles fielded that grounder off Manny Machado's bat with runners on first and third and one out. It glanced off his glove and then he hurriedly threw home. It appeared catcher Nick Hundley had the ball in time to tag Jones out, but he could not hang on to the low throw.

Game over. O's get the 10th-inning walk-off victory.

"Doesn't matter how you score," Jones said. "As long as you win the game, that's all that matters. Yovani (Gallardo) threw a helluva game. Both sides. Overall, it was a good game for the fans to watch. We play to the last out is made."

"I don't know. I couldn't tell you. You can see it from the review. I was just running," Jones said.

Running indeed, going hard from first to third after his one-out single when Jonathan Schoop punched a groundball single into right field. Jones hustled to third to put the winning run 90 feet away.

"That is called pride," Jones said. "Play the game hard, man. A situation where you need a guy on third base, I'm busting my tail off to get there. I mean (Schoop's) having a great year, but he's also having good at-bats, at-bat to at-bat. It's good to see the growth in that man."

Now the Orioles have followed up a four-game losing streak with a five-game winning streak. They are a season-high 18 games over .500 (58-40). With Boston's loss tonight and Toronto's win, the Orioles lead the American League East by 2 1/2 games over the Red Sox and three over Toronto.

"We lost (four) straight and it was kind of like an apocalypse was happening here," Jones said. "We just grind it out every day. We're happy with the results we're getting."

Especially at home, where they are 37-14 (.725) and have won six in a row, 11 of their last 12 and 20 of the past 24 games.

Making his 12th Orioles start, Gallardo may have delivered his best. He went 6 2/3 and gave up five hits and two runs, with two walks and six strikeouts to tie his season high. He gave up a two-out single in the seventh to Mark Reynolds that put the Rockies ahead 2-1 before the Orioles would tie it in the seventh and win it three innings later.

Was this Gallardo's best start of 2016?

"Yeah, I felt good," he said. "Even the last start I had in New York, felt pretty good and once again today. Was able to get ground balls when I needed to and got out of trouble. That's a positive sign. In the seventh inning, that wild pitch allowed (David Dahl) to go to second. And even the base hit that Reynolds got, it was a good pitch. A fastball down and away and just a ground ball that got through. He also fouled off some petty good pitches.

"I think it is maybe being more aggressive. For myself, that is what I've tried to do the last two games and the pitch count showed it. We all feed off one another (in the rotation). See that guy in front of you go deep in a game and try to do the same thing or even better. It's a friendly competition that is going to benefit the team."

Gallardo is 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA in five home starts. He was asked if the Orioles are now seeing him pitch to the level he is capable of.

"Yeah, I mean, of course," he said. "The first half didn't go the way I wanted it to and things seemed not to go my way. But ever since I've been off the DL, been feeling pretty good. I was sometimes trying to overthink it or overdo things. But the last three or four starts, just go out there and be myself. Just get some double plays and make pitches when I have to."
