Adam Jones talks about stealing bases

Here is a surprising stat: The Orioles now lead the American League in stolen bases with 34. Last season, they ranked last in the AL with 58. At this pace, the Orioles would steal 125 bases this season. While no one is confusing him with Ricky Henderson out there, Adam Jones has stolen three bases in the last two games and is now 8-for-8 on the year in stolen base attempts after going 16-for-23 last year. After stealing just one base in April, Jones is now 7-for-7 in 17 games this month. "I'm trying to pick my spots," Jones said. "Myself, (coach Wayne) Kirby over there, we want to run due to our athletic ability. But sometimes, the way Chris Davis is swinging the bat, you have to leave that hole (on the right side) open for him. Sometimes, the way he swings the bat you are in scoring position with him on first base. "It is trying to pick the right situation. Last night, two outs (in the ninth), hey, try it and try to get in scoring position. All it takes is a hit to win. Trying to pick the right spots and be confident in myself to go." Jones is tied for seventh in the AL with those eight steals. Teammate Nate McLouth and Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury are tied for the AL lead with 13. The last Oriole to steal more than eight bases without being caught to start a season was Cesar Izturis, who stole nine before being thrown out to start the 2009 season.
