Adam Jones said his agent is in town, but Jones told reporters a few minutes ago that, as of this hour, he has not agreed to a new contract with the Orioles.
"I wish I could tell you more. But there is nothing to tell you because there is nothing being done right now. I wish I had bells and whistles to tell you, trust me I do. My agent is in town. He has a flight out of here in a couple of hours. Hopefully, I will have some good news for you, but right now I don't," Jones said.
He confirmed that he has taken a physical and was asked about the possibility of signing a long-term deal.
"It would be cool ... I don't want to jinx anything. My agent has way better answers than I do," Jones said.
Jones was asked if he has spoken with O's owner Peter Angelos.
"I have not. I want to, though. Really do want to talk to him about a lot of different things that I have ideas of. See what is the goal. What do we want to do here? If I'm a part of it, I'm a part of it. We're adults and I do want to meet with him," Jones said.
Jones was asked which side initiated this latest round of contract talks.
"Honestly, probably both sides, I don't know. I'm not in their offices. I'm in center field in my office," Jones said. "It's a pretty cool office to have. It's an exciting thing, it's a humbling thing, just the thought of it. It's not complete so, trust me, my phone has been blowing up. It's exciting, but I'd rather wait until something is imminent and I could have good news for you guys.
"If this happens, it happens. If it doesn't, I won't be disappointed because if it does, it was meant to be, if it doesn't it wasn't meant to be.
"My life has already been altered. It's not about the money. My life has already been changed by just getting involved with professional sports. This is my ninth year."
Jones said there are plenty of reasons for him to want to remain an Oriole.
"Look at the players I have around me," he said. "This is something we can build on with a strong core. Similar to what New York has had with Jeter, Mariano, Posada and Pettitte. The core is our future. We have a good team and I've enjoyed it. I've enjoyed it since I've been here but obviously winning has made it a lot more enjoyable."
Jones said he was in Dundalk yesterday when the club was off and he saw first hand the fans excitement about the club's great start. Plus he is aware of the team's winning past.
"I've seen it on TV, from watching the playoffs back in the day. This is a baseball city, I see it all over the city. This city would go wild. I was in Dundalk yesterday, on a boat at some dock and five or six people came up to me and said 'I love what you are doing with the team, keep playing hard.'
"Other guys were saying in Dundalk, they might have the game on in previous years, but this year they have all the games on. You win around here, this town is a winner city. I would love to be in the middle of it as opposed to going somewhere else," Jones said.
