All-Star balloting update and Orioles notes

As the 2015 All-Star Game approaches, the Orioles remain shut out among the leaders in voting in the American League.

Adam Jones remains seventh among outfielders and Manny Machado remains fourth among third basemen.

The starting position players will be unveiled on Sunday, July 5th at 7:30 p.m on ESPN. Reserves, pitchers and Final Vote candidates for each league will be announced the following night on ESPN.

Pitchers and reserves for both teams will be determined through a combination of player ballot choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers.

The All-Star Game will be played on July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Kevin Gausman is the confirmed starter for Thursday night's game against the Rangers. He's expected to be optioned afterward so he can continue to pitch every fifth day, including during the All-Star break.

The Orioles will need to make a roster move on Thursday to create a spot for Gausman.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop worked out today at Camden Yards and the Orioles are deciding on the next step. His injury rehab assignment runs through July 3 because he agreed to 15 days instead of 20. He could report to Triple-A Norfolk or Single-A Frederick to continue playing until activated from the disabled list.

Manager Buck Showalter said the team could "make a case" for optioning Schoop, but he'd have to stay down a minimum of 10 days unless replacing an injured player.

The Orioles are expected to add a seventh reliever fairly soon.

Dylan Bundy remains shut down with inflammation in his right shoulder and he's not close to throwing again. Though surgery still isn't being discussed, it's possible that Bundy won't pitch again this season.

Showalter said throwing isn't "imminent" for Bundy. He declined to provide more details on Dr. James Andrews' follow-up examination.

Hunter Harvey, on the disabled list with a strained flexor mass, is ready to start a throwing program.

Double-A Bowie right-hander Elih Villanueva has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 28 after he threw a complete-game shutout last Monday against the Trenton Thunder.

Single-A Frederick pitcher David Hess was named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week after tossing five scoreless innings on Saturday against Salem.
