Another day and another crazy walk-off win for the Orioles

Another crazy night at the ballpark ended with another Orioles walk-off win in the last of the 10^th inning. And just like on the Fourth of July, they tied the game with two outs in the last of the ninth and won it an inning later.

Adley Rutschman’s double produced the tie Monday and Rougned Odor’s solo homer to right in the ninth produced the 9-9 tie on Tuesday night. It was his third career game-tying or go-ahead home run with two outs in the ninth or later and first since a walk-off homer in the last of the 10^th for Texas against Detroit on Aug. 3, 2019. This time he helped the Orioles beat the Rangers 10-9.

The Orioles last night became the first team in major league history to allow a game-tying or go-ahead homer in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings and still win the game.

That is crazy, but it happened.

In the seventh, Mitch Garver’s solo homer off Keegan Akin tied the game 4-4. An inning later, Nathaniel Lowe’s three-run shot off Nick Vespi tied the game at 7-7. In the ninth, Corey Seager’s two-run shot off Félix Bautista gave Texas the 9-8 lead that stood only until Odor’s homer in the bottom of the frame.

Then Cedric Mullins doubled to left-center with two outs in the 10^th to score Ryan McKenna, the placed runner, for the 10-9 win via the walk-off.

Mullins had a huge night, going 3-for-4 with two walks, two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. His bat is really heating up and has been for several games now. The five times reaching base is one off his career-best of six times on April 4, 2021 at Boston. Mullins has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 starts, batting .391/.453/.587 (18-for-46) with six doubles, one homer, eight runs and nine RBIs. He produced his second-career walk-off plate appearance. His first was a walk-off sac fly in the 10^th inning on April 29, 2021 versus the Yankees.

The O’s bullpen kept giving up leads – it would happen three times on the night – but in the end they had another victory in the books.

A few more notes after a crazy win:

* The Orioles have back-to-back walk-off wins for the second time this season. They first did it May 19 against the Yankees and May 20 against the Rays. Now they have done it two games in a row against Texas. The Orioles began Tuesday tied for the second-most walk-off wins in the majors with six.

* The Orioles scored nine of their 10 runs with two outs.

* The Orioles won their 38^th game in Game No. 82 while last year that happened in Game No. 105. They improved to 20-17 at home. Last year, they won their 20^th home game in their 65^th home contest on Sept. 7 versus Kansas City.

* In the six games before last night, the Orioles went just 5-for-43 (.116) when batting with runners in scoring position. Last night, they went 6-for-14 (.429).

* The Orioles put up all that offense in a game where both Austin Hays and Ryan Mountcastle did not start.

Said the Orioles' Trey Mancini: "We're never out of it, I feel like, and that game was the epitome of who this team is. We never gave up. We can give up some leads at times, but we're always going to battle back.

"It's been really fun. I'm not sure what the next few weeks have in store (with the trade deadline) exactly, but I know I'm just having fun. Just trying to enjoy every day with these guys. This year has been a breath of fresh air, and no matter what happens, I'm really proud of this group and the way that we progressed and played this year. It's been really, really fun and special to be a part of."
